AOTW - Thom Yorke - The Eraser

I'm always wary of solo albums from artists in bands that I like, mostly because they're just very forgettable. The most recent entry that comes to mind is the abysmal Bernard Fanning album. It's not that it was terrible. It just wasn't very good, average at best, while some of Powderfinger's stuff, 'The Internationalist' at least, is great.

So I put on Thom Yorke's 'The Eraser' with much hesitation. Radiohead didn't grab me until 'OK Computer' came out so I don't worship the ground they walk on or anything, unlike every review I've seen for this freakin album. "Oh My GOd, He's A Musical Genius". No he's not. 'The Eraser' sounds like something Yorke probably put together late at night in his bedroom when he couldn't sleep.

After a few listens it does grab me and I really like it, but it's hardly musical genius. This is pretty much a Radiohead album that got stripped back a little.

I should point out that I a do like this. I think my reviews of things might make me sound like I hate everything but if I've chosen something as an album of the week it's because I'm listening to it a lot. If I wanted to pound something hatefully into the ground I'd listen to a Creed album for a week, but why would I want to do that?
