Uni - Week One

I've finally found a computer at the uni library that allows me access to this! Sweet.


So, uni is enjoyable thus far. On Monday I had my first lecture. It was for 'Introduction To English Literature' and from first impressions the lecturer is the stereotype of an old, eclectic english professor. "Most of you will drop out of this unit. English Literature is a dying art due to the fact that film and television are taking over your young stupid minds". Something of that nature. I think he'll be fun. I hope he's my tutor.


After that I had my first philosophy lecture, "Critical and Creative Thinking". That's a blast. We're basically learning how to structure a sound, logical argument. We were also told a great philosophy joke. I'll try and re-tell it to you with some luck:


Two guys are drinking in a bar. One guy goes, "I haven't seen you around here before". The other guy goes, "Yeah. I'm new in town. Just moved here."

Guy1 :"Oh yeah? What do you do?"

Guy 2:"I'm a logician"

Guy 1:"Logician? What's that then?"

Guy 2:"Well, I take what someone says and, based on that, make a conclusion"

Guy 1:"What do you mean?"

Guy 2:"Let me give you an example. Do you have an aquarium?"

Guy 1:"Yes, as a matter of fact I do"

Guy 2:"So, you like fish huh?"

Guy 1:"Love 'em. I could sit and watch fish all day"

Guy 2:"So, you like fishing?"

Guy 1:"Yes, I love fishing. Gives me a chance to sit back, reflect and relax"

Guy 2:"So, you go on fishing trips?"

Guy 1:"Yeh, I do. I just took my wife and kid down south last weekend for a fishing trip"

Guy 2:"Ah. So you are a heterosexual"

Guy 1:"Wow! That's incredible! How did you know?"

They go on chatting like this for a while and then Guy 2 leaves. Guy 1 stays drinking at the bar and one of his mates walks in.

Guy 1:"Hey man, guess what? I was just talking to this new guy in town. He's a logician."

"Oh yeh? What's that then?"

Guy 1:"Let me give you an example. Do you have an aquarium?"

"Nah man"

Guy 1:"Well, you are gay".

HAH! Great joke.

Anyhow, Tuesday I had my first lecture for "Intro To Creative Arts". That's going to be a suoer fun unit also. We're studying a different form of art each week and we have to give a presentation of a piece of creativity one week. I'm doing the week on music. I think I might introduce the class to "art noise experimental extreme metal jazz fusion". Whatever you want to call it. 'Naked City' or something like that. Anyway, we had the tutorial for that one also. The lecturer and tutor for that one is really easy to listen to. She's into contempary art and it shows, which is a way cool thing by me.

I also had my first philosophy tutorial. That was a great time. An hour and a half of discussions about logic and life. I look forward to the next one.

This morning I had my first tutorial for 'Australian Cinema' and we watched 'Ten Canoes'. I was going to discuss it now, but then I blabbed on about uni and it appears I can't save pictures to this computer and post them. Movie rants have to have pictures!
