Moofies - Hijacked Penguin

I can't sleep this morning so I'll post some more rants.

Now I know that movies rip each other off all the time. Scorsese remakes a perfectly good Cantonese movie and gets an Oscar, but at least he thanked the original in his speech. One disaster movie comes out, another one comes out six weeks later. One epic comes out, another one comes out. It happens. This I can forgive though, mostly. I mean, sure, 'Alexander' was an awful lot like 'Troy' (they both blowed), and they could both be compared to 'Ben Hur', but the fact is that at the end of they day they are just 3 films that fit in the same 'epic battle crap' genre. 'Volcano' was similar to 'Dante's Peak' which was similar to about a million other movies about the ground being strange, but they both fit into the 'disaster movie' genre.

What makes me mad is when a good Aussie guy and a few of his hippy mates get together and make a nice looking animation, only to get completely ripped off 6 months later.

'But he's not a dancing penguin, he's a surfer, and it's done in a fake doco style. It's TOTALLY different and NOTHING like Happy Feet'. Oh riiiiiight. Yes, I'm sure that you guys at Sony are totally not into ripping people off for a buck at all.

I don't know why this pisses me off so much. I guess it's because it's so blatant but it will work for them. Millions of parents will say, 'Well my kid and I enjoyed Happy Feet so this will be fun too'. ARRGH!!!!! At least when people remake foreign films the majority doesn't know or care about it. This is just so blatant.

Oh well. I've had my say. I won't lose any sleep over it. At least Sony doesn't kill people or anything....as far as I know.

The other classic example :
Madagscar - cool movie about New York Zoo animals who end up in the wild

followed 6 months or so later by...

The Wild - not so cool movie about New York Zoo animals who end up in the wild - even the title is pretty unoriginal

Does anyone else get the impression that Surfs Up will be just as bad as A Shark's Tale - ie. total crap.

It would appear that the best movies come from those who can be bothered thinking up their own ideas.

On the other hand, penguins and Antarctica were an obvious setting of choice for an animated film. Why was it so long before someone made one?

Oh yeh! I can't believe I forgot about all the other cheap knock off children's films. I guess producers think they'll have more luck ripping off kids and/or parents of kids than they will the rest of us. They're probably right. If they didn't make any money then rip offs would stop being made.
