Moofies - $9.99 (2008)

EXPECTATIONS: This looks to be a grungy, arty claymation film. I already like the visual style, but will the drama be interesting enough for me to care?

REALITY: I can't really compare this film to anything else. It tells the brief tales of a few different people who all live in the same apartment tower as their lives and stories intertwine in various ways. Some stories are realistically simple and beautiful while others, although quite surreal, still have that same realistic portrayal of life and relationships to them. The characters, despite not having a huge amount of screen time, are well fleshed out and the vocal performances and excellent animation give every character weight.

I'm still not 100% sure what it all meant, but the film has a really great vibe about it. The story could possibly have been told in a more traditional film manner, rather than animated, but the surrealistic elements almost become normalised because of the completely created world that the film makers present us with.

This is must see stuff.
